More Than Distractions
Everyone knows about the most common distractions in the vehicle. And how teens have a high mortality rate. My experience as a driving instructor has been different. I dont allow the phone to be on in the first place.
What I have seen more often are teens suffering from a lack of sleep
I had one student this summer that could only drive for an hour before starting to yawn.
The day he fell asleep at a red light I immediately terminated the drive and talked to his parents. He was staying up watching movies til 5am then sleeping for an hour before school.
I always ask at the start of a session how the student is feeling if its after school. Whether they ate lunch, and got enough rest.
As a parent you should keep this in mind when heading out to drive with your teen. If they are sleepy its better to call it off for a better day.
